During the American Civil War, caisson wagons were used to transport artillery and ammunition. Here are some interesting facts about these wagons:

  • A caisson is a two-wheeled wagon that was specially designed to transport artillery pieces and their ammunition.
  • The name “caisson” comes from the French word for “box,” which refers to the box-like structure on the back of the wagon where the ammunition was stored.
  • Caissons were pulled by teams of horses, usually six to eight, and were designed to be mobile enough to keep up with the artillery units they supported.
  • Caissons were equipped with a limber, which was a two-wheeled carriage that connected the caisson to the artillery piece. This allowed the entire unit to move as a single entity.
  • The caisson’s ammunition chest was designed to hold a set number of shells and powder charges, and the chest was divided into compartments to keep the different types of ammunition separate.
  • The caisson was manned by a team of six men, who were responsible for driving and maintaining the wagon, as well as loading and unloading the ammunition.
  • Caissons were often subject to enemy fire during battle, and their ammunition chests were vulnerable to explosions if hit. As a result, caisson crews were highly trained and often relied on cover from friendly troops to protect them during battle.
  • Caissons continued to be used in military conflicts after the Civil War, and were a common sight on battlefields around the world until the advent of motorized transport in the early 20th century.

This is a high quality miniature 3D printed by Speira Miniatures in Sweden.

You can paint it as any normal miniature, no need to wash it beforehand. It is delivered unpainted.

Usable for dioarama, wargaming or tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeon and Dragons, Warhammer, Pathfinder and so on. Also great as decor in your home if you order the large scales. We can always transform any model into a bust if you like, please contact us.

Due to the inherit nature of 3D printing the miniatures might contain imperfections and could require additional cleanup where the support have been; use sand paper or green putty for example. Print layers will sometimes be visable.

3D resin is brittle, even if we use a mixture than makes it more flexible. However it cannot be compared with the normal plastic that is used for example Warhammer, Marx or Conte miniatures. Handle the 3D prints with care, a fall can break them. Glue info here.
