In a world where giants roamed, there existed a diminutive marvel known as Nemicolopterus crypticus, a tiny dinosaur that defied the conventions of its time. This pocket-sized pterosaur captivates paleontologists and enthusiasts alike with its remarkable features.
Miniature Pterosaur: Nemicolopterus crypticus is one of the smallest pterosaurs ever discovered, with a wingspan of just around 25 centimeters (about 10 inches). Its diminutive size makes it stand out among the giants of the prehistoric skies.
Fossil Rarity: Fossils of Nemicolopterus are exceedingly rare, with only a few specimens known to science. This scarcity adds an aura of mystery to this tiny flying reptile.
Jurassic China: These ancient pterosaurs lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 160 million years ago, in what is now modern-day China, specifically the Liaoning Province.
Advanced Flight: Despite its small size, Nemicolopterus was an accomplished flyer. It possessed adaptations for powered flight, including a robust shoulder girdle and well-developed flight muscles.
Piscivorous Diet: Like many pterosaurs, Nemicolopterus is believed to have had a diet primarily composed of fish. Its long, slender jaws with sharp teeth were well-suited for capturing small aquatic prey.
Furcula Discovery: An important and intriguing discovery associated with Nemicolopterus is its furcula, or wishbone. This bone is crucial in understanding the evolution of flight in pterosaurs and birds.
Ecosystem Insights: The presence of Nemicolopterus in the Late Jurassic ecosystem provides valuable insights into the diversity of life during this time, showing that even the smallest niches could be occupied by unique creatures.
Paleontological Puzzles: Nemicolopterus raises questions about the diversity, behavior, and adaptations of pterosaurs during the Late Jurassic, as well as the broader context of Mesozoic ecosystems.
Evolutionary Significance: Although small, Nemicolopterus contributes to our understanding of the evolution of pterosaurs and the challenges they faced in the skies during the age of dinosaurs.
Museum Marvel: Despite its diminutive size, Nemicolopterus crypticus is a testament to the rich tapestry of prehistoric life, captivating the imagination of those who encounter it in museums and fossil collections, reminding us that even the smallest fossils can yield big discoveries.
This is a high quality miniature 3D printed by Speira Miniatures in Sweden.
You can paint it as any normal miniature, no need to wash it beforehand. It is delivered unpainted.
Usable for dioarama, wargaming or tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeon and Dragons, Warhammer, Pathfinder and so on. Also great as decor in your home if you order the large scales. We can always transform any model into a bust if you like, please contact us.
Due to the inherit nature of 3D printing the miniatures might contain imperfections and could require additional cleanup where the support have been; use sand paper or green putty for example. Print layers will sometimes be visable.
3D resin is brittle, even if we use a mixture than makes it more flexible. However it cannot be compared with the normal plastic that is used for example Warhammer, Marx or Conte miniatures. Handle the 3D prints with care, a fall can break them. Glue info here.
